A team divided by misunderstanding
A team of almost 50 people, responsible for achieving a substantial sales target were losing momentum and people. On the face of it nothing was going hugely wrong but one or two key, unforeseen departures were setting alarm bells ringing. The leadership were worried that the circumstances imposed by Covid, substantial changes of leadership and the stresses brought about by the magnitude of the task in hand were causing people to burn out. We were hired to undertake a resilience-strengthening exercise but our preliminary investigations pointed in another direction. We focused our attention on preparing individuals and the three organisational layers to have a set of 'reset' conversations during which individuals were given the perfect opportunity to speak openly about what was going on for them, what they need from their team and their boss and what they wanted to offer that wasn't yet being tapped into.
